OBITUARY: James Robert Taylor Sr.

James Robert Taylor Sr., 74, of Rockingham, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024 at Wickshire Creeks Crossing Senior Living, Raeford.

He was born Feb. 11, 1950 in Richmond County, son of the late Thurman Lewis Taylor and Beulah Mae Greer Taylor.

James worked in mechanical maintenance with Hood Packaging for more than 30 years and was a very hard worker. He was a member of Mount Carmel Free Will Baptist Church in Rockingham. James never met a stranger and loved everybody. He had a great sense of humor and was always ready to make someone laugh or smile with a witty joke or comment. Being a good listener and giving reasonable advice, family and friends looked to him for support.

James was also a family-oriented man and was an excellent example to his family. He showed true love by the blending of his and his late wife’s children together and loved them all as his own. He will be dearly missed by his family and all whom loved him.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Morton Taylor; and sister, Margie Faye Harden Stewart.

James is survived by his children, Lisa Taylor Wheeler of Rockingham and James Robert Taylor Jr. of Hamlet; bonus children, Felisia Gulledge and husband Mark of Hamlet, and Bryan Gibson and wife Amparo of Rockingham; grandchildren, Addison Gibson (Meagan), Taylor Wheeler Teague, Hailey Wheeler Russell (Kody) and Carley Gulledge; great-grandchildren, Noah Gibson, Maizie Gibson and Denver Grace Teague; and brothers, Glenn Taylor and Dean Taylor, both of Rockingham, and Raymond Taylor and wife Kathy of Hamlet.

Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024 from 2-3 p.m. at Mount Carmel Free Will Baptist Church, Rockingham.

The Celebration of Life service will begin, immediately following visitation, at 3 p.m. with Pastor Mike Childers, Pastor Eddie Hildreth and Pastor Marvin Taylor officiating. Inurnment will be held private.
