OBITUARY: James W. Cox

Mr. James W. Cox, a respected father, grandfather, and devoted husband, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025, at the age of 77.

Born on the Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago, he was the beloved husband of Glenda C. Cox, who survives him. Together, they raised three children and built a life filled with love and devotion.

After relocating to the United States, Mr. Cox arrived in New York City and later settled in Paterson, New Jersey, where he pursued his passion for auto body restoration. With a love for speed, cars, boats, and motorcycles, he took pride in his top-quality work as a small business owner as a body man for over five decades, finding joy in every project he undertook. An avid outdoorsman, and renaissance man Mr. Cox enjoyed being on the water, engaging in woodworking, welding, traveling, and farming, showcasing his many talents and interests.

He is survived by his cherished wife, Glenda; his grandchildren, Glenda V. Mullings, Felicia F. Turner, and Jimeka D. Turner; and numerous friends and family members.

He was preceded in death by his siblings and many relatives in the United States and Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies.

Mr. Cox will be deeply missed by his wife, his devoted granddaughter Glenda V. Mullings, and his caring neighbors, the Shermans and Houstons, as well as all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. His legacy of hard work, love, and devotion will forever resonate in the hearts of those he touched.

A private celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Harrington Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 214 McDonald Ave., Hamlet.

Granddaughter Glenda V. Mullings extends her heartfelt gratitude to the nursing home staff for their compassionate care of her grandfather. A special thank you is also given to the Shermans and Houstons, whose unwavering support made them more than just neighbors; they became family.

Sincere appreciation is also expressed to all of his friends in the Laurinburg Community whose lives he touched and the Harrington Funeral Home & Crematory for their services in honoring Mr. Cox's memory.
