Jennifer Johnson Carter, 57, of Rockingham, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on Oct. 28, 1968 in Richmond County, Jennifer was the daughter of the late Bobby Gene Johnson Sr. and Hellon Frances Johnson.

She dedicated 14 years of service to the Richmond County Department of Social Services, where she worked as a caseworker, touching countless lives through her compassion, dedication, and caring heart.

Jennifer was a woman of strong faith who loved the Lord and lived her life as an example of kindness and generosity. She was a devoted supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and always looked for ways to help others. Even during her own illness, Jennifer continued to think of those around her, often bringing gifts to nurses and medical staff as a token of appreciation for their care and kindness.

Known for her warm smile, infectious sense of humor, and giving spirit, Jennifer never met a stranger. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing her loved her. She had a special gift for making people laugh and feel welcome, and her presence brought joy wherever she went.

Jennifer had a deep love for animals, especially her beloved dog, Lolly, who brought her much comfort and companionship. Above all else, however, Jennifer treasured her family. She was a loving and devoted wife who often expressed her love to her husband with the words, "Always forever." She was a proud and cherished Meme to her grandchildren, who were among the greatest blessings of her life.

Jennifer's faith remained steadfast through every season of life. She often encouraged others with her favorite expressions, "It is well" and "Keep the faith of a mustard seed." These words reflected the strength, hope, and trust in God that guided her throughout her life.

Jennifer leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, laughter, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family and friends. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now at peace in the presence of her Lord and Savior, whom she faithfully served throughout her life.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of the home, Thomas Carter; children, Jessica Chappell (Chris) and Kelsey Holt (Chris), both of Hamlet, and Nicholas Carter (Skylar) of Rockingham; adopted daughter, Jamie Bennett (Michael) of Rockingham; beloved grandchildren, Caitlynn Chappell, Wyatt Holt, Everleigh Holt and Hudson Chappell; adopted grandchildren, William and Jillian Bennett; brother, Bobby Gene Johnson Jr. of Rockingham; sisters, Donna Johnson and Cynthia Whitley, both of Rockingham; close friends, Janice Byrd and Vicki Kennedy; and numerous extended family and friends that loved her dearly.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2026 from 2-3 p.m. at Faith Missionary Baptist Church, Hatcher Road, Rockingham.

The Celebration of Life will immediately follow the service, beginning at 3 p.m., with Pastor Travis Wilkerson officiating.
