OBITUARY: Jerry Lee Newberry

Jerry Lee Newberry, 76, of Rockingham, passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2025.

Jerry was the son of the late William Alexander Newberry and Elsie Wilson Newberry and was born Jan. 25, 1949, in Moore County.

Along with his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his brother, William Alexander Newberry Jr.; and his beloved wife of 25 years, Wilma Jean Newberry.

Jerry Newberry was a well-known man in the Richmond County Community as he lived here his whole life apart for his time spent in the military. Jerry was proud to serve in the United States Air Force, serving 20 years and specialized as an administrator in the 4th Wing Air College. Around town Jerry was commonly seen at Biscuitville, Burger King and Waffle House engaging in his community. Jerry is a man that will be missed by many in Richmond County. 

Jerry is survived by his daughter, Michelle Angelique Pierce (Jerry) of Nebraska; his son, Westley McNeil Newberry (Nickie) of Rockingham; grandchildren Michael Allen Pierce and Melanie Angelique Krebs; great-grandchildren, Rivers Pierce, Skylar Pierce, Scarlet Pierce and Quinn Pierce; and many loving friends. 

Family will receive friends for visitation at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Sept. 12. A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at noon and will be officiated by the Rev. James Mims, a very dear and close friend to Jerry. A graveside will follow, and full military honors will be presented to the family.
