Posted

John Theodore Robich, son of Yovo and Zdenka Robich, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 19 in Wilmington.

Born in Dillon, South Carolina, on Sept. 8, 1944, he spent his childhood in Cincinnati, Ohio and Louisville, Kentucky.

After graduate school and completing ROTC at Ohio State University, John served as a captain in the U.S. Army (Military Police) and served 14 months in Vietnam — where he volunteered for deployment. While in Vietnam, John earned several medals which included The Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster and The Army Commendation Medal.

John spent over 40 years as a professor at Richmond Community College. Thousands of students knew him as Professor Robich, as they studied Criminal Justice, Human Services and many electives. He worked tirelessly to prepare every student for various professions in these and other fields.

When he wasn’t teaching, he spent many hours coaching his children and countless others in Richmond County. This included all the various sports offered through Rockingham Parks and Recreation at the time.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jon Michael.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Caron; his children, Tali, Theo (Pam) and Brittney (Keith); his beloved grandchildren, Henry, Reese, Rhett and Addie — who affectionately called him “P.”
