John Wesley Layton Jr., 58, of Florence, South Carolina, passed away surrounded by family on Thursday Feb. 26, 2026 at his mother’s home.
John Wesley was born on Nov. 20, 1967 to Elaine Sweatt Thompson and the late John Wesley Layton Sr.
After high school, John Wesley attained his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He loved fishing, duck hunting, and shooting pool with friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his beloved dog, Duke.
Along with his father, he was preceded in death by a brother Randy Lee Layton Sr.
Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Elaine Thompson and husband Buddy; nephews, Randy Layton Jr. and Cameron Tyson; stepbrother, Steve Thompson and wife Angel; and stepsister, Christie Smith and husband Joey.
The family will receive friends for vastation on Monday, March 2, 2026 from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at Abundant Life Church of God. Funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. with burial following at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Wallace, South Carolina.
