Sgt. Johnny Everette Cribb, 80, of Hamlet, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026.
He was born July 7, 1945 in Scotland County, son of the late Robert Ernest Cribb and Gladys Poole Cribb.
Johnny was a kind and gentle man known for his honesty and strong character. He was well loved and respected by all who knew him and shared a special bond with his nieces.
He worked as a skilled carpenter and later spent 25 years as a painter, taking pride in his work and dedication.
Johnny proudly served in the United States Army, including two years in Vietnam beginning in 1970. He served as a sergeant in combat service and was awarded the Bronze Medal for his honorable service.
In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and dining at his favorite local restaurants. He also enjoyed sharing vegetables from his garden with friends and local restaurants.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the American Legion, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Willie Curtis Cribb and Jerry M. Cribb; his sister, Mae Cribb Haywood; and his sister-in-law, Ervin Frances Locklear Cribb.
He is survived by his brother, Robert Nelson Cribb; and his beloved nieces, Judy Horton (Glenn), Rose Mary Oxendine (Larry), Penny Locklear (Mack) and Jacqueline Hunt (Tommie).
Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, from 1-2 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home in Hamlet.
The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Burial will take place at Richmond County Memorial Park with full military honors.
