Kay Crouch Smith, 76, of Rockingham passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Brookdale in Pinehurst.
She was born March 18, 1949 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Irma Allen Crouch.
Kay was a member of Crestview Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served on many different committees. She retired from Richmond County Public Schools, where she taught second grade for 39 years.
Kay’s life will live on through the love and memories she created with her family and friends. She was a devoted daughter, mother, sister and grandma. She was considered to be the “glue” that kept the family together.
Anyone who knew Kay knew her for her organizational skills. Everything was orderly and had a designated place. She was a natural caretaker. She spent a great amount of time in hospitals and assisted living facilities caring for family members. She was an amazing second-grade teacher and parents often requested her as their child’s teacher because of her zeal and dedication in the classroom. God used Kay for so many years to plant seeds of goodness into every life she encountered. She will be missed ,but she leaves a marvelous legacy behind for generations to come.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Crouch; and sister-in-law, Debbie Crouch.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday, May 9, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Crestview Baptist Church with Pastor Robby Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving, her husband of 55 years, Ben Smith of the home; children, Kristie Pressley (Cam) of Denver and Benjamin Smith (Whitney) of Rockingham; grandchildren, Mason and Sawyer Smith of Rockingham; brothers, Jeff Crouch (Kathy) and Rex Crouch (Kay) all of Rockingham; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Crestview Baptist Church in the fellowship hall and at other times her home, 394 Crestview Drive, Rockingham.
