Louise Lambert Sweatt, 87, of Rockingham, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Nov. 21, 1938, in Richmond County, daughter of the late Zeak Lambert and Marie Cox Lambert.
Louise was a truly kind and loving person with one of the biggest hearts anyone could ever know. She was sweet, welcoming, and always made everyone feel loved and accepted. Louise had a special gift for caring for others and spent much of her life taking care of and helping raise many children.
She was always ready with a warm smile and one of her loving hugs. She was a wonderful mother and the greatest grandma, cherishing every moment she shared with her family. Her love extended not only to people but to all animals, which held a very special place in her heart.
Louise touched many lives through her kindness, compassion, and unconditional love. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her giving heart, and the love she so freely shared with everyone around her.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. Her memory will live on in the many lives she touched and in the love she gave so freely.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Clinton Strickland; son, Johnnie Sweatt; brother, Robert Lambert; and sister, Brenda Gail Lambert.
Left to cherish Louise’s memories are her children, Carolyn Black of Tennessee, Marie Sweatt of Cheraw, South Carolina, Sharon Sweatt of Rockingham, Melinda Rowland of Chesterfield, South Carolina, Linda Stokes of Rockingham, and Tony Sweatt of Rockingham; grandchildren, Dale Sweatt (Miranda), Rene Sweatt, Shawn Sweatt, Joy Walters (Rodney), Freddie Brigman, Jr., Tasha Sweatt, April Hammonds, Shannon Sweatt, Jesse Brunner (Arin), Anthony Sweatt, Chris Gonder, Roxanne Shepard (Jeff), Page Watson (Seth), Morgan Starling (Will), Kalynn Honeycutt, Dalton Jones (Laura), and Stephanie Nicholas; 46 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-great-grandchild; sisters, Ruth Lambert of Rockingham and Barbara Chavis (William) of Gibson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family that dearly loved her.
Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 12, 2026 from 6-8 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home, Hamlet.
The funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026 at noon at Jefferson Park Free Will Baptist Church, Rockingham, with the Rev. Alex Perakis officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park.
