Lowell Thomas Hill Sr., 86, of Ellerbe, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home on Jan. 25, 2025, entering his heavenly eternal rest.
Born on Sept. 17, 1938, in Richmond County, he lived a life full of purpose and dedication, exemplifying the values of hard work, faith and family.
Throughout his career, Lowell was a devoted farmer and avid gardener, nurturing the land and sharing its bounty with those around him. His commitment to agricultural life reflected his deep connection to nature and the community he cherished. Lowell proudly served six years in the United States Navy, where he developed resilience and a commitment to service that would carry through his life.
As a member of McLean Presbyterian Church EPC, Lowell took on numerous responsibilities as an elder and treasurer, devoting his time and talents to be a good steward. His contributions extended beyond the church, as he was a member and past master of Elberta Lodge No. 654 AF&AM, and he proudly served as past president of the Richmond County Farm Bureau. His impact on the community was profound, as he volunteered and participated in many organizations, always eager to lend a helping hand.
Lowell is survived by his beloved wife, Frances Glidewell Hill. Together, they built a loving family that includes: their sons, Tom Hill, Jerry Hill and Danny Hill (Sylvia); daughter, Amy Yaklin (Chris); and his brother, Kenneth Hill (Doris); sisters, Glenda Allen (Steve), Kathleen Carter (Dwight) and Jewell Weatherly. He was a proud grandfather to Amy Michelle, Sean, Aaron, David, Danny, Jessica, Taylor, Molly, Kelsey and Sarah, as well as a devoted great-grandfather to Briar, Riley, Aemon, Wade, Walt, Lottie, Jarrett, Jackson, August, Trinity, Chase, Lexie and Kyle. He also had many nieces and nephews who looked up to him with admiration.
We extend special thanks and heartfelt appreciation to our friend and Lowell's caregiver, Mahogany Morrison, for her love and care during Lowell's illness.
