Lucille Hatcher Martin, of Rockingham, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sept. 7, 2026.
Lucille was born in Rockingham, North Carolina. She was the beloved wife of the late John A. Martin and a devoted mother. She was a grandmother. She was a lifelong member of East Rockingham United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her son, John E. Martin and his wife, Ida, of Kingstree, South Carolina; her daughter, Susan Perry and her husband, Jake, of Raleigh, North Carolina; and her granddaughter, Gabriel Rebecca Martin, of Columbia, South Carolina.
Lucille worked for many years at Big Star Grocery Store in Hamlet, North Carolina. She was a hardworking woman who took pride in her home and her family.
Lucille was an outspoken advocate for her community.
She especially enjoyed maintaining her beautiful yard, often behind the wheel of her legendary red Snapper riding mower. She also loved playing Bingo with her long list of friends at Burger King. And no description of Lucille would be complete without mentioning her favorite Bojangles breakfast: a brown egg biscuit, inside removed, accompanied by especially crispy bacon.
She had many loyal friends and especially enjoyed her core group of devoted girlfriends: Doris, Patsy, Mary and Jenelle.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the kindness and gentle care provided by Richmond County Aging Services (Mary and Elizabeth), FirstHealth Richmond and Moore Counties, Richmond Pines Rehab, and the wonderful staff at Richmond Co. Hospice Haven. Their compassion and care during Lucille’s final days will always be remembered and deeply appreciated. We would also like to acknowledge the wonderful, caring cousins and friends who have provided comfort and understanding during this difficult time.
