Margie Mae Hudson Cobbler, 88, of Rockingham, passed Wednesday, June 12, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Margie was a daughter of the late William and Helen Hudson and was born June 9, 1936.

Along with her parents, Margie is preceded in death by her husband, Junior Cobbler, to whom she shared 49 years of marriage before his passing in 1999. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Marshall, George, Carl, Edwin, Hobert, Leroy, Clyde and Walter; and sisters Mary Melton and Delilah Hudson.

Margie was born and raised in Rockingham. She never knew a stranger; if she didn’t know you, she made it her mission to change that. Margie worked for many years in textiles and volunteering at the front desk of Richmond Memorial Hospital. Margie was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was baptized in the river at Bethel when she was young. She enjoyed spending her Sunday mornings watching Joel Osteen and solving her word search puzzles.

She was a woman devoted to her family and in her mother’s and sister's declining health, became their caretaker. Margie’s greatest joy in life was her grandchildren and beloved great-grandchildren. She loved writing birthday cards for her family and never missed a single birthday. She was a kind and loving woman, who left her mark on those around her. She is a woman who will be dearly missed.

Margie is survived by her son, David Cobbler (Myra), of Rockingham; daughters, Jane C. Slater (Art) of Fuquay Varina and Leeanna C. Hancock (Allen) also of Rockingham; grandchildren, Kevin Slater (Amy) of Holly Springs, Kimberly Clayton (Bryan-Michael) of Fuquay Varina, Crystal Hunsucker (Chris), Zeb Cobbler (Krystal), Shelly Steele (Brian) and Bryan Hancock (Monica), all of Rockingham and Hamlet.

Margie also leaves behind her 13 great-grandchildren: William, Cameron, Annabelle and Madelyn Slater; Miles, Emmet and Daisy Clayton; Cain and Cooper Hunsucker; Kyleigh Edwards; Taylor and Hunter Steele; and Madison Hancock. Margie is further survived by her brothers, Junior, Larry Wayne and Clifford, all of Rockingham, and John Ray of Goldsboro.
