Marguerite Ellison Evans, 85, of Rockingham, formerly of Indiana, went on to be with her Lord and Saviour on Friday, March 20, 2026, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Richmond.
She was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on Nov. 8, 1940 to the late Charles Berr and Cora Alice Ellison.
Marguerite was a woman who found joy in life’s simple pleasures — she loved to read, watch the birds, and spend quiet moments sitting outside, taking in the beauty around her.
She enjoyed going out to eat, and Burger King was her favorite. Known for her friendly spirit, she never met a stranger and never forgot a name, making everyone she encountered feel seen and valued. She also enjoyed collecting watches.
Her faith was the cornerstone of who she was. She was deeply devoted to her church, loving both her church family and her Lord with all her heart. Her salvation meant everything to her, and her greatest wish was for all of her family and loved ones to come to know the Lord Jesus Christ.
She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her welcoming heart, and the love she shared so freely with others.
Along with her parents, Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband, George Evans.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Darlena Bishop of Sarasota, Florida, Christina Fortney (Dennis), also of Sarasota, and Andrea Chavis (Richie) of Rockingham; son, Darrell Evans of Rockingham; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 5 p.m., at Hopewell Independent Baptist Church in Hamlet, with Pastor Michael Carpenter officiating.
Burial will be held privately by the family.
Harrington Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the family.
