Markus Dwane Waldrop went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 9, 2024, in Rockingham, North Carolina.
Born to Mary Celeste Howell and Terry Waldrop on Jan. 3, 1970, Markus was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend.
He never met a stranger: Markus was always smiling, always kind, and always humble. He was a man of faith demonstrating patience, unconditional love, and encouragement to all who knew him. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Hamlet and volunteered as he could with the Helping Hands Ministry, by aiding in building ramps for those in the community. He is cherished by his family and friends.
A graduate of Richmond Senior High School, Markus joined the U.S. Navy and dutifully served his country. Following his service in the military, he began a career in law enforcement, continuing his service by working for the North Carolina Department of Corrections, the Mecklenburg-County Sheriff’s Office, and later the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office. He received numerous commendations both in the military and in law enforcement. After leaving law enforcement, Markus again served his community as a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier.
In 2001, Markus married the love of his life, Loren Chavis, and together they built a family and a life filled with faith, love and laughter. Markus was a devoted father to Claude Chavis III (Trey).
Markus is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Celeste Howell; his father-in-law. Ralph W. Craig Jr.; and his beloved furry companion, Ranger.
Markus’ legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Loren; his son, Claude; his father Terry (Judy) Waldrop; his in-laws, Theresa and Ralph K. Edwards Jr., and Laura Craig; Godfather, Mike Kearns; his sisters, Donna (Mark) Warren, Krista (Steven) Smith, and brother, Myron Maxwell; his brothers-in-law, Brian (Hayley) Malone, Ralph (Catherine) Edwards III, William (Erin) Edwards, and Daniel (Ashley) Craig; his sisters-in-law, Samantha (Seabert) Means, Kimberly Morris and Jessica Craig; and his furry companions, Sable and Tank. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a wide circle of friends and colleagues will also feel his absence
Visitation with the family will be Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 10 a.m. in the parlor at First Baptist Church, Hamlet and will be followed by a celebration of life in the church sanctuary beginning at 11 a.m.
