Mary Lee Terry Chappell, 84, of Hamlet, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, June 3, 2024 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.
She was born Sept. 5, 1939 in Richmond County, daughter of the late Roy Lee Terry and Mollie English Terry.
Mary worked in textiles in her earlier years and then became a homemaker and raising her children. She was a member of Crossroads Ministries in Hamlet. Mary enjoyed crocheting, gardening and canning fresh vegetables. She also loved coloring and puzzles, and was a fan of the Atlanta Braves. She loved everybody and everybody that knew her loved her. When anyone visited her home she was quick to invite them to eat at her table and often would send food with them.
Mary was a joy to her family and friends and always had a smile. To her family, she was the best Mama in the world, as well as grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Charles “Sam” Chappell Jr.; son-in-law, Thad Pearson Sr.; and brother, Platt Terry.
Mary is survived by her children, Cindy Pearson of Marston, Teresa C. Brown (William) of Hamlet, Debbie Chappell of Lake Tillery, Charles Larry Chappell of Marston and Mark Chappell (Amber) of Hamlet; 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren; and her bother, Luther Terry (Linda) of Rockingham.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 5, 2024 from 6-8 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home, Hamlet.
The funeral service will be Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church, Rockingham, with Pastor Marvin Taylor and the Rev. Floyd Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park.
