Melba Ross Short, 82, of Hamlet, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at her home.
She was born Nov. 21, 1942, in Richmond County, to the late Erie Glenn Ross Sr. and Emma Mae Stubbs Ross.
Melba was an active member of King’s Gate Church and loved her church family. She is known as a dedicated, faithful Christian, and generous of her talents to the Lord.
She was the owner of Melba’s Flower Shoppe for over 40 years. Prior to her floral talents in our community, she worked in Chicago with two different florists some years ago. She would pray over her floral arrangements and for her customers. She is remembered as being a Godly, sophisticated woman who was loved by everyone and who had a heart for people.
Melba also loved her cats and nurtured them well. She will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lois Brizendine; infant brother, Leonard Ross; and stepdaughter, Lisa Kay Short.
She is survived by her loving husband, William Short of the home; brother, Gene Ross (Elaine) of Hamlet; close cousin and spiritual sister, Kym and Bill Wright; stepdaughters, Betty Jo Oliver (Wayne) and Amanda Hart, both of Rockingham; and special nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation will be Monday, April 7, 2025, 11 a.m.-noon at King’s Gate Church in Hamlet.
The funeral service, to celebrate Melba’s life, will take place, following visitation, at noon, with Pastor Eddie McLean officiating. Burial will follow at Stubbs Family Cemetery, Bennettsville, South Carolina.
