Michael Thomas “Mike” Peele, 65, of Hamlet, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2023 at his home.
He was born March 8, 1958 in Scotland County, son of Patricia Walters Peele and the late Gary Jerome Peele Sr.
Mike was a member of Gibson Baptist Church. In his earlier years, he was a great athlete and enjoyed playing sports. He loved all sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys. He also loved the beach, good music and a good steak. By nature, he enjoyed being a jokester. Mike was a genuine caregiver to many. In the care-giving spirit, he could not rest until everyone had what they needed. He wanted everyone to be happy and he would give to anyone in need. Mike’s greatest joy was his family — he loved them all.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Jerome Peele Sr.; uncles, Harold Bell (Dot), Jack Godbold, W.E. Peele (Rose) and Bobby Huggins (Catherine); aunt, Phyllis Cox (Michael); nephew, Patrick Peele; and niece, Meredith Hodge.
Mike is survived by his mother, Patricia Walters Peele of the home; son, Rocky Clewis of Hamlet; brother, Gary Jerome Peele Jr. (Cathy) of Charlotte; sister, Regina Hodge (Eric) of Galveston, Texas; uncle, Shuler Peele (Madeline); aunt, Glendora Godbold; nephews, Gary Peele III (Jamie), Michael-Jon Peele and Thomas Hodge (Hanah); great-nieces and nephews, Camille Peele, Tyler Peele, Meredith Grace Hodge and Tate Hodge; and many cousins and extended family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2023 beginning at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Hamlet, with Dr. Allison Farrah and the Rev. Eric Hodge officiating.
