It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael “Mike” Wayne Grooms Sr., 69, of Bennettsville, South Carolina, on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024, while surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was a son of the late Archie and Ethel Grooms, born July 11, 1955 in Richmond County.
Along with his parents, Mike is preceded in death by siblings Charles Grooms and Linda Mae Grooms.
Mike was a hardworking man that loved and cherished his family dearly. Mike loved spoiling his grandchildren and letting them drive his truck, with his supervision of course. He was a lover of Elvis and collecting coins. His wish was to visit Graceland, which he did get the time to enjoy.
In Mike’s earlier years he enjoyed woodworking. Mike wore many hats in his lifetime, from being a bus driver, working in the school system. Also, a volunteer firefighter to being a chief at Brightsville Fire Department of Bennettsville, South Carolina. Mike was also a supervisor in the mill setting for years until he retired.
Mike was a loving father and grandfather, and he will be missed dearly by all those that loved him.
Mike is survived by his children, Michael Wayne Grooms Jr., Joy Graves, Dustin Wayne Grooms (his right-hand man), and Krista (Kris) Moore; grandchildren, Luke Preslar, Audrey Graves, Addison Moore, Anleigh Moore and Allie “J” Moore; siblings, Lincoln Grooms, Daniel Grooms (Cindy), Wanda Rankin (Richie) and Ethel McPherson.
The family will receive friends for visitation at Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet from 1-3 p.m.. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024. Funeral Services will be private.
Mike was an organ donor, and while he was unable to donate for medical reasons, it was a cause that he held very dear to his heart.
