Pansy Mae East, 92, of Rockingham, passed away surrounded by her loving family at Richmond Co. Hospice Haven.
Pansy is a daughter of the late Nini and Dewey Leazer. She was born March 13, 1932, in Salisbury, North Carolina.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by siblings, Jerry, Garland, Lenny and Lewis; and by both first and second husbands, Doak Clifton Hare Jr. and Ernest Woodrow East.
Pansy was incredibly active, even at her age she would always be doing something. She loved going to yard sales with her daughters, taking pictures of every moment, watching the news and most of all: Bruton Scotch Snuff. Pansy was a precious woman and was a character. She was a hard worker, working at the J.P. Stevens plant for several years. Pansy will be dearly missed.
Pansy is survived by her loving and darling dog, Sissy, of the home; children, Teresa Hare, Doak Hare III (Betty) and Tina Hare; siblings, Essie Leazer, and Bobby Leazer; grandchildren, Ernest “BamBam” Polston (Tammy), Robert Lynn (Jessica), April Mahaffee (Justin), Brandon Arnette (Macy) and Jennifer Lindsay; great-grandchildren, Keith Polston, Sheridan Lynn, Drew Knoor, Hannah Nearing, A.J. “Jaydee Bird” Polston (Jenna), Colson Mahaffee, Skylar Cox (Rhett) and Cayden Skipper; great-grand”dogs” Nugget “Nick-Nick” and Buddy Arnette.
The family received friends for visitation Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, from noon to 1 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham. A funeral was conducted at 1 p.m. with Hospice Chaplain Paula Daigle officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Co. Memorial Park Cemetery.
