Peggy Daves Harris, 89, of Rockingham, passed away Monday, March 31, 2025, at her home.
She was born on Jan. 1, 1936, in Cleveland County, a daughter of the late William Oliver and Ruth Sansing Daves.
She worked at Thomas Realty, as office manager, from 1977 until her retirement in 2020. Peggy was a member of First Baptist Church of Rockingham since 1958. She served as a Sundy school teacher & Sunday school department pianist, as well as singing in the choir, playing handbells and serving on various committees.
Music was always important to her throughout her life. The Richmond Senior High School Marching Band was close to Peggy’s heart. She worked alongside Fred in helping with the band for many years. She began singing solos in church as a youth, was a member of the high school Glee Club, and ended with being a founding member of The Sandhills Ringers, a community handbell choir.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 4, 2025, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Rockingham with Dr. William W. Leathers III officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Memorial Park.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred F. Harris; and sister, Carol D. Jones.
Surviving her are daughters Judy Harris of Rockingham and Donna Meadows with husband Anthony Meadows of New Bern; granddaughters, Hannah Meadows of New Bern and Madison Hargis with husband Cody Hargis of Washington, Utah; and many special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham.
