Peggy Lunceford Steele, 83, of Rockingham, passed away Monday, April 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at Richmond County Hospice Haven.
Peggy was born on July 29, 1941 to the late Ruby and Lee Lunceford Jr.
In addition to her parents, Peggy is preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, James Henry “Pie” Steele.
Peggy spent her career as a spinner and a clothing checker for Burlington Industries. After her retirement, Peggy loved to fill her time with reading as well as talking on the phone to her lifelong friend and once coworker Louise Bullard.
More than anything, Peggy loved her family. She cherished all who she could call hers, but her granddaughters were the apples of her eye. Peggy leaves behind a great legacy filled with rich memories, that all who know her can truly treasure.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Gregg Steele and Amy Chambers (Bobby); her grandchildren, Hannah Chappell (Wesley) and Rebekah Chambers (Joshua); great-grandchildren, Landon, Jackson and Nathan Chappell; and her siblings, Elaine Davis (Jerry), David Lunceford, Pat “Trisha” Lunceford and Kathy Yates.
The family will greet friends for visitation on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 5-7 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham. A service to honor Peggy’s life will be held Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Joy Free Will Baptist Church in Rockingham, with interment to follow at St. Paul Community Church with the Rev. June Grant officiating.
