Rebecca “Becky” Faries Williams, 89, of Rockingham, formerly of Hamlet, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026, at her home surrounded by loved ones.
She was born on Nov. 25, 1936 in Lincolnton, the daughter of Major Boyce Faries Sr. and Nora Williamson Faries.
Becky graduated from Hamlet High School with the Class of 1955 and went on to attend Hardbarger Business College. She retired from Richmond County Schools after many years of dedicated service as a teacher assistant. Prior to that, she worked as office manager for her husband Robert Bruce Williams Jr.’s optometric practice in Rockingham.
A lifelong member of The First Presbyterian Church of Hamlet, Becky served faithfully as both deacon and circle member. She was also a proud member of The Entre Nous Book Club, founded in 1921, and an enthusiastic supporter of The Cole Auditorium and Community Center, deeply valuing the arts and their impact on her community. Over the years, she participated in numerous civic and social organizations, including the Hamlet and Rockingham Women’s Clubs, both the morning and evening circles of First Presbyterian Women, the Fairview’s Finest retirement group, and several bridge and contract rummy clubs with dear friends.
Becky filled the lives of those around her with a love for beauty, art, music, people, and community. Rarely one to stay at home, she delighted in being out with friends and actively involved in all aspects of community life. For decades, she lovingly made homemade butter mints for weddings, showers, holidays, and special occasions — an art she learned from Mrs. Murphy (Pearl) McDonald of First Presbyterian. Above all, Becky deeply cherished her children and family.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026, from noon–2 p.m. at The First Presbyterian Church of Hamlet. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Richard Stone officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Memorial Park in Rockingham.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five siblings, Major Boyce Faries Jr., Frances Faries McCaskill, Victor Hugo Faries, Sarah Faries Lassiter and William Scott Faries; and her nephew, Bernie Louis McCaskill.
Becky is survived by her daughter, Amy Rebecca Williams of Rockingham; son, Robert Bruce (Tina) Williams III of Rockingham; grandchildren, Emma Katelynn Williams of Rockingham, Robert B. (Kaitlyn) Goodwin of Rockingham, Katie Burgess Goodwin of Sanford and Sarah Grace (Chris) Cummings of Hamlet; dear cousin, Sally Scott Prichard of Tega Cay, South Carolina; three great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends at 2515 Old Aberdeen Road, Rockingham.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Becky’s memory to Liberty Hospice or The First Presbyterian Church of Hamlet.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Becky’s caregiver, Geri Keane, and the staff of Liberty Hospice — especially Paris and Sharon — for their exceptional care and compassion.
