Richard C. “Casey” LaVelle passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, June 15, 2025 in Hamlet, North Carolina. He was 92.
Casey was born Richard Charles LaVelle on July 17, 1932 to Vivian and Gertrude LaVelle in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Fort Dodge in 1950. Following high school, Casey served in the United States Army completing a tour in Japan during the Korean Conflict. He attended the University of Iowa upon completion of his military service and graduated with a B.S. in Accounting in 1957.
On Oct. 25, 1952, Casey married our Mother, his kindergarten sweetheart, Constance Jean “Connie” Whalen. They enjoyed 69 years of marriage until Connie’s passing in 2021. Connie and Casey would adopt three children, Mark(1959), Anne Marie (1960) and John (1963) in Chicago, Illinois.
Casey built a successful career in management consulting with Arthur Andersen & Co. Joining the firm in 1957, he was appointed to the consulting practice in 1958 and achieving partnership in 1969. During his career, Casey and his partners laid the foundations of automated banking, electronic transacting, inventory computerization among other innovations that are ubiquitous today. The consulting practice is now known as Accenture Ltd.
Casey was a talented golfer and played nearly everyday until the end of his life. While the game brought him great joy, it was eclipsed by his love of his family, friends and God.
Casey is preceded in death by his wife, Connie; his son, Mark; and his daughter, Anne Marie.
He is survived by his son, John LaVelle (Shannon) of Hamlet; grandchildren, Jessica Fonseca (Chon) of Landenberg, Pennsylvania, Nicholas LaVelle of Hamlet, Monica Farley (Gary) of Patchogue, New York, Ashley Aston (Nate) of Colorado, Amanda Crawford (Samuel) of Virginia and Abigaile LaVelle of Virginia.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 W. Broad St., Falls Church, Virginia.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Saint James Catholic Church, 905 Park Avenue, Falls Church, Virginia, beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, 3411 Arlington Blvd., Arlington, Virginia.
