OBITUARY: Richard Evans Quick

Richard Evans Quick, 92, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, March 15, 2025, to be with his loving wife Zelma and daughter Elaine.

Richard was born to Foster Hilton Quick and Bertha Brigman Quick on Dec. 17, 1932.

He graduated from Hamlet High School in 1950. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. After service, he returned to Hamlet where he spent 44-plus years working in the Rockingham central office for Southern Bell, Bell South, and lastly AT&T.

His many loves included his family, watching his children play baseball and football, hanging around Arlo’s with friends, being active in church, and gardening on the family farm that provided him peace and a lasting connection to his childhood and to his mother, Bertha, and sister, Emily, who often tended the garden with him.

He is survived by his sister, Carol Joyce Quick Howard of Hamlet; eldest son, David Quick and partner Sharlyn Elmore of Rockingham, middle son, Keith Quick of Southport, and youngest son, Jimmy Quick and daughter-in-law Amy Quick of Hamlet.

He is survived by nieces and nephews of the Howard family, Bennie, Susan, Kim and Joel, and the Fields family, Christine and Miriam. He was blessed by a special bond with his niece, Kim Howard Pence, her son Hill, and husband Bill that will be eternal.

He is preceded in death by wife Zelma Brock Quick and daughter Vera Elaine Quick; his parents, Foster and Bertha Quick; his brother, James Curtis Quick; and sisters Shirley Ann Quick Fields and Emily Faye Quick.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, from 1-3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Hamlet, 200 Rice St., Hamlet, followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m. A procession to follow at Richmond Memorial Park.
