OBITUARY: Robert Lee Cook

Robert Lee Cook, 94, of Ivor, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 10, 2025 at Richmond County Hospice Haven, Rockingham.

Mr. Cook and his wife, Katherine, recently came to live with Leo and Barbara McCauley in Rockingham.

Mr. Cook, affectionately known as “Big Cook” and “Beaver,” was born Sept. 1, 1931, in Ivor, Virginia, son of the late Robert Lee Cook and Maggie Louise Wells Cook.

Mr. Cook was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He was faithful to his church, Mill Swamp Baptist Church, and served in numerous capacities throughout his more than 70 years membership, including deacon and usher. He dearly loved serving in his church and loved his church family.

Among other enjoyments, Mr. Cook was active outdoors with gardening and landscaping. He dearly loved his family and was a well-respected gentleman.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Jones Cook; and several brothers and a sister.

Left to cherish Mr. Cook’s memories are his loving wife, Katherine Bolton Cook of the home; stepchildren, Gladys "Lou" Whittaker of Rockingham, Ernest Duke Kimbrough and wife Debbie of Prince George, Virginia, Barbara McCauley and husband Leo, of Rockingham, and Michael Wayne Kimbrough and wife Susan of Hampstead; brothers, Richard Cook and wife Teresa of Macon, Georgia, and John “Monk” Cook and wife Betty of Wakefield, Virginia; six grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Mill Swamp Baptist Church, Ivor, Virginia.

The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 1 p.m., followed by interment in the church cemetery.
