Rose Claire Beach McHugh, 92, of Hamlet, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.
She was born April 20, 1933, in Binghamton, New York, daughter of the late Elmer Merritt Beach and Jenny Hoyles Beach.
Rose loved gardening, old movies, westerns, game shows and puzzle books. She dearly loved her family and friends. She grew up and continued in her faith in the Catholic Church throughout her life. She was a regular participant with the Hamlet Senior Center, which she thoroughly enjoyed. During several years of attending the senior games, she collected over 15 medals.
Rose worked for and retired from New York Insurance Company. She enjoyed going out to eat, with Cracker Barrel being her favorite restaurant, and she loved a banana split. Her personality was funny and she enjoyed laughter and “cutting up.” One of her favorite pastimes was crocheting. Rose’s favorite line when asked, “How do you feel?” she always answered, “with my hands.”
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Danny Rodriguez and Peter V. McHugh; son, Joseph McHugh; grandchildren, Richard Bryant, Trisheena Bryant-Caulder and Tara Janosik; and one great-great grandchild.
Rose is survived by her children, Patricia Joseph, John McHugh, Pamela Millen (Rick), Thomas McHugh, Peter McHugh Jr., April O’Halloran (Steve) and Jean McHugh (Rob); grandchildren, Jeanina Joseph, Timothy Joseph, Robert Joseph, Jeremy Joseph, Julie Rivera-Souther, John Monahan, Sherry Kelly, Michael Bryant, Audry McHugh, Freddy Wagenhauser, Keith Wagenhauser, Danny Morris, Raina Rose, Robert Vicioso, Rhonda Jones and Justin Millen; 34 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
All services will be held privately by the family.
