Rosemary Ledbetter, 84, formerly of Rockingham, passed on May 20, 2025 in New York City, New York.
Rosemary was born to Robert Ledbetter Jr. and Rosalie Ledbetter of Rockingham and graduated from Leak Street High School in 1959.
She moved to New York in the same year, where she lived out her remaining life.
Rosemary accepted Christ at a young age and attended Mount Pisgah AME Zion Church in her hometown. Later, she became a member of Allen AME Church in St. Albans, New York.
She worked in various clerical positions throughout her career. Later on, she became a home health aide, a career she held until retirement in 2020.
She was a beacon of light to all who knew her. Rosemary was a very outgoing person who loved her family and friends.
She enjoyed cooking, music, dancing, participating in activities at the Masonic Lodge (like dances), amateur photography and hosting dinners and parties.
She was recently described by a friend as being “a very strong woman that made a huge impact” on his life and he was grateful. She will surely be missed by all.
Her parents, her sister, Sara R. Henry, and brother, Robert J. Ledbetter Jr., preceded her in death. Robert L. Hamilton, a Mason and the love of her life, also preceded her in death.
She leaves behind her siblings, Clara E. Stanback of Houston, Texas, Amin Sharif of Richmond, Virginia, Barbara L. Gooding of Greensboro, and Elizabeth A. Horace of Charlotte; and a host of remaining relatives and friends.
The Celebration of Life will be held at the Shekinah Youth Church in Jamaica, New York.
A graveside service will be held on 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Northside Cemetery.
