Sarah Carter Parrish, 82, of Hamlet, passed away on June 9, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born on April 17, 1944 in Mecklenburg County, a daughter of the late Rufus and Ruth Solomon Carter.
Sarah was the owner and operator of Sandy Spring Green House, where she poured her energy, care, and dedication into her work. Through her business, she became known for her steady spirit and warm personality.
A longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church, Sarah found great joy in her faith and in the fellowship of her church family. She especially enjoyed being involved with the children in Sunday school class and Vacation Bible School, where her loving nature and cheerful sense of humor left a lasting impression.
Family was at the center of Sarah’s life, and she treasured every moment spent with those she loved.
She is survived by her daughter, Tracey Parrish; her son-in-law, James Smith; her grandchildren, Hannah Michelle Stern and her husband Daniel, and Kimberly Dawn Lopez and her husband Angel; her great-grandchildren, William Christopher Smith, Nolan Curtis Hester and Julian Grey Lopez; and her sister, Linda Carter. She also held a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Willard Parrish; and her daughter, Susie Smith.
Sarah’s life was a beautiful example of devotion to God, commitment to family, and kindness toward others. Her legacy will live on in the lives of those she loved and in the many hearts she touched throughout her lifetime. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will remain a source of comfort and gratitude to all who were blessed to know her.
A celebration of her life will be Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Frye officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Co. Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2026 at Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet and at other times her home 607 Freeman Mill Road, Hamlet.
