Shelby Jane Simmons Peele, 84, of Rockingham, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Richmond.
She was born on Aug. 17, 1940, in Whiteville, daughter of the late Roy Barden Simmons and Genevieve Ward Simmons.
Shelby loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved cooking, gardening, flowers, and just enjoyed being outside. She also loved going out to eat with her two best friends, Deanna Ward and Pam Horne.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Peele; daughter, Sylvia Johnson; granddaughter, Jessica Peele; brother, Roger Dale Simmons; and sisters, Linda Staley and Norma Gomiller.
Shelby is survived by her daughters, Kay Clarke (Steve) of Rockingham and Paula Peele of the home; son, Andy Ward of Rockingham; sister, Virginia Todd of Rockingham; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025, at 11 a.m., at New Vision Freewill Baptist Church in Rockingham, with Pastor Tommy Peacock officiating.
At other times, the family will receive visitors at the home of her daughter, Kay, on Hopkins Road in Rockingham.
