Sue Flynn, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sept. 30, 2026, surrounded by her family at Richmond County Hospice Haven.
Born April 25, 1943, Sue was the youngest of seven children, with four brothers and two sisters. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Shannon, and a loving grandmother to her grandson and granddaughter. She was also a cherished aunt to her many nieces and nephews and a dear friend to many throughout Richmond County.
Sue was known for her kind and generous heart. She loved giving little gifts to her friends and found great joy in making others feel special. She loved her church family at Calvary Baptist Church and treasured the friendships and fellowship she found there.
For most of her career, Sue worked as a teller and in customer service at First Scotland Bank and First Bank, where her warm personality and genuine care for others touched many lives.
Sue had a love for beautiful things, nature, decorating, and shopping. She had a special talent for creating beauty wherever she went. She was also a devoted dog mom and cherished her beloved little dachshund, who was her faithful companion and brought her much love and happiness.
Sue will be remembered for her loving spirit, generosity, thoughtfulness, and the many ways she made others feel cared for. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love and precious memories.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Olin Brown and Lessie Bell Johnson; and siblings, Howard Balltzglier, Robert Balltzglier, Harold Balltzglier, Hilda Woods and Mildred Mangum.
Left to cherish Sue’s memory is her daughter, Shannon Gilchrist (James) of Wilmington; grandchildren, Brayden Gilchrist and Kinley Gilchrist; and brother, Donald Balltzglier (Harriet) of Woodstock, Georgia.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, Hamlet, with Pastor Larry Frye and Pastor Bill Monroe officiating.
