OBITUARY: Tarence L. Hunt

Tarence L. (Pete) Hunt, 83, of Hamlet, passed away surrounded by his loving family Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, at Richmond County Hospice Haven.

Pete was born Feb. 17, 1941 in Laurinburg to parents Roy and Emily Hunt.

Pete is preceded in death by his loving grandmother, Miriam “Ma” Nowell; parents, Roy and Emily Hunt; and sister, Patricia Hunt.

In his early years, Pete and his family would move from Laurinburg and settle in Laurel Hill, where he would eventually graduate from Laurel Hill High School. Pete was an entrepreneur; he owned and operated Mangum Oil for over 20 years. Pete would then work for CSX Railroad as a conductor for 34 years before retiring. His favorite way to spend time was to either work in his yard or play a game of golf. Above all, his greatest joy in life was his family.

Pete is survived by wife of 61 blessed years, Kay Hunt, of the home; children, Debbie Butler (Jim), Bobby Hunt and Greg Hunt. He is lovingly known as “Bump” to his grandchildren, Ryan Butler, Peyton Hunt (John) and Drew Butler (Elizabeth); and great-grandchild, Skye Dunlap. He is also survived by his brother, Garrett Hunt; brothers-in-law, Don Price (Debbie),and Larry Price (Lynda); and several nieces and nephews that he truly loved.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Richmond County Memorial Park with the Rev. Randy Bishop officiating.
