OBITUARY: Timothy Calvin Durden

Timothy Calvin Durden, 77, of Rockingham, passed away at home on Sunday, June 22, 2025, surrounded by family.

Mr. Durden was born Aug. 1, 1947 in Rockingham, to the late Harvey Durden and Florine Lambert Durden.

He served our country in the United States Navy during the time of Vietnam. He earned his associates in both Diesel Mechanic and Criminal Justice, later retiring from CSX railroad.

Mr. Durden was a gentle soul who dearly loved his family. He is remembered as a cowboy at heart, who was a John Wayne and “Gunsmoke” fanatic. He loved fishing and firearms, and his beloved dog, Roxie.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Hennie May Durden; and brothers, Daniel Durden and George Durden.

Mr. Durden is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Dyson Durden of the home; son, Edward Durden (Loretta), and daughters, Wendy Covington, Tammy Davis (Ray) and Samantha Griggs (Daniel); grandchildren, Brittany Goins (William), Dillon Covington (Julie), Sierra Hughes Moorman(Trey), Megan Covington, Morgan Covington (Alex), Tripp Griggs and Adam Hughes; great-grandchildren, Matti Calloway, Kataya Moorman, Calliope Goins, Benjamin Hughes, Riley Raines, Elias Moorman and Jackson Arnette; siblings, Allen Durden (Florine) and Bessie Hopkins; and many nieces and nephews, whom he dearly loved.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Nancy Price and Janice Lewis for their wonderful, emotional support.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 11 a.m.-noon at Roberdel Methodist Church.

A memorial service will immediately follow the visitation at noon, with the Rev. Paul Haber officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 N. U.S. Hwy 1, Rockingham, NC 28379.
