Tommy Nelson Shaw, 67, of Rockingham, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on July 13, 2026.
Born on Nov. 29, 1958 in Marlboro County, South Carolina, Tommy lived a life defined by love, faith, hard work and an unwavering devotion to his family.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Jessie Shaw; and his beloved German shepherd, Nellie, whose faithful companionship brought him joy for 14 years.
He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend to many and touched the lives of everyone who knew him. His beloved wife of 30 years, Cathy Arey Shaw, along with the rest of his family, was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
A dedicated employee of Carolina Pest Management, he faithfully served his community through years of loyal and dependable service and was rarely seen without a bottle of hand sanitizer tucked in his pocket.
NASCAR was one of his passions. When he wasn’t cheering on his favorite drivers, he could often be found enjoying classic re-runs of "Gunsmoke" and Andy Griffith, a couple of his favorite shows.
Being a devoted “Papaw” was one of Tommy’s greatest joys and proudest roles in life which he embraced with endless love. His quick wit, generous heart and unwavering love for his family were the hallmarks of the life he lived and the legacy he leaves behind.
Tommy will be deeply missed, but his love, laughter and devotion will live on in the hearts of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
