OBITUARY: Toni Saunders McKay

Posted

Toni Saunders McKay was born Sept. 4, 1960 in Rockingham  and peacefully passed away at the age of 64 in the hospital on June 9, 2025, surrounded by her closest relatives.

She leaves behind a loving family, and the memory of a passionate, independent and fun-loving spirit.

Toni attended Rohanen High school and lived in Rockingham most of her life before moving to Rolesville, where she lived with her sister, Patricia Stogner, for the past three years.

Toni was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and great aunt.  Toni worked in a variety of occupations throughout her life from head cook at Little Kingdom Child Care, to owner and operator of Dashing Deals consignment store in Rockingham.

Toni was best known for her love of animals and nature, as well as her faith in the Lord.  Whether livestock or pets, they were all her babies.  From cats, dogs, pigs, goats, horses, birds and even a pet fox, she saw God’s miracle and blessing of life in all creatures.  As a true believer in Jesus Christ, Toni had a peace within her that gave her strength and comfort in the promise of life everlasting.

Toni was the daughter of Leeroyce and Edna Saunders and sister to Sherry Cagle, Trena McDaniel and Jerry Saunders who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her sister, Patricia Stogner, and brothers Jimmy Saunders and Lee Saunders.  She leaves behind two sons, Chris McKay and his wife Courtney and Kyle McKay;  and her grandchildren, Layla McKay and Duncan McKay.

A visitation for the family will be held at Watson-King Funeral home at 306 E. Franklin St. in Rockingham on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, from 10-11:30 a.m.
