With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of William (Will) Eugene Sweatt on April 10, 2026, at the age of 35.
William was born in Mecklenburg County and lived a life in Richmond County, marked by compassion, strength, and deep devotion to his family and friends.
After being diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, William fought with unwavering courage and grace. He spent a lot of his time riding motorcycles, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his closest friends Stanley Gould, Ryan Miller, Logan Harrison and Kalon Bates. He was a volunteer firefighter in Morven and he was known for his kindness, and commitment to others.
He is the son of (mother) Donna Blue, and (father) Gary Richardson, (grandparents) Larry and Virginia White and special bonus mother Ann Locklear.
He was preceded in death by stepfather Mitchell Blue, and his biological father, Robert Sweatt; grandparents Lee and Mildred Sweatt, and Harry and Barbara Richardson.
He was also a cherished brother to seven siblings, Amanda Brown (Brandon) Bobby Sweatt, Savannah Herrick (Michael), Jennifer Bingham (Michael), Samantha Smith, Robert Sweatt Jr., Kenzleigh Sweatt. He is also survived by nieces Kylee Witwer, Zoey Bingham, Avery Honey and Ava McDowell; and nephews Jaden Richardson and Brody Dorsey.
William touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing him. His selflessness, warmth, and generous spirit will be remembered forever. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion that lives on in all of us.
Services to honor William's life with his family and friends will be held on Sunday, April 19 at 3 p.m. at Outreach for Jesus, 440 Battley Dairy Road, Hamlet.
