OBITUARY: William Lloyd Heaton Jr.

William Lloyd Heaton Jr., 68, of Rockingham, passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.

He was born March 15, 1956 in Richmond County, son of the late William Lloyd Heaton Sr. and Margaret Freeman Heaton.

JR worked as a welder for many years with Butler Manufacturing and Industrial Sheet Metal. He was an avid golfer, loved the Dallas Cowboys, and also loved to hunt and fish. Among other things that he enjoyed were playing his guitar and he loved his truck. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren.

JR loved the Lord and was faithful. In his final days, he said that he was ready to “go home and meet Jesus.” He will be dearly missed by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Lloyd Heaton Sr. and Margaret Freeman Heaton.

Left to cherish JR’s memories are his wife, Mary Jane Smith Heaton of the home; sons, Robert Heaton (Shannon) of West End and Dustin Heaton (Cristal) of Hamlet; stepdaughter, Pam McDonald (Brian) of Rockingham; stepson, Frankie Taylor (Tarrah) of Rockingham; grandchildren, Courtney Heaton, Alyssa Heaton, Caleb Heaton, Sheccid Heaton, Dustin Heaton II, Jordan McDonald (Tricia), Jeremy McDonald, Kaitlyn Taylor, Austin Taylor and Megan Taylor; great-grandchild, Lynlee McDonald; brother, Bobby Heaton (Barbara) of Rockingham; and sister, Peggy Tanner of Rockingham.

All services are being held private by the family.
