Willie Lester Steele Jr., 77, of Hamlet, passed away at Richmond County Hospice Haven, on Saturday, June 28, 2025, surrounded by family.
He was born to the late Willie Lester Steele Sr. and Maggie Blue Steele, on Sept. 13, 1947.
Willie served in the U.S. Army for 20 years and worked for the U.S. Postal Service for almost 20 years. He was a loving husband and father. He was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Edith Hayward.
Willie is survived by his loving wife, Ursula Steele; daughter, Tamara Wallace (David) of Rockingham; son, Willie Lester Steele III (Debbie) of Hamlet; sister, Mattie Pond (Vernon); sister-in-law, Tina Eckert (Herbert); grandchildren, Abrianna McAuley, Lacey Steele, Cameran McAuley and Benjamin McAuley II; great-grandchildren, Noah and Nina Newton; and nephews, Kenny Pond of Laurel Hill and Andy Pond of Fort Mill, South Carolina.
All services will be held privately by the family.
