ROCKINGHAM — The number of COVID-19 cases has risen by only one in the past 24 hours and only one patient is currently hospitalized, the Richmond County Health Department reported Friday.
The county’s total number of cases since April 7 is now at 104, with 41 of those having recovered. Of all the residents tested, 715 received a negative result.
Sixty patients are currently under home isolation, according to the Health Department.
The majority of those who have contracted the coronavirus in Richmond County (55) are between the ages of 41 and 64. Five are 18 or younger, 21 are 65 or older, and the remaining 23 fall between the ages of 19 and 40 years.
More than 600 new cases were reported statewide, bringing the total for North Carolina to 17,129, according to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services.
The deaths of 621 people are being attributed to the coronavirus, including two in Richmond County.
There are cases in every county across the state except for Avery, which is in the mountains and borders Tennessee.
South Carolina has the lowest number of cases in the southeast, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control in Prevention.
Neighboring Chesterfield County has risen to 90 cases and Marlboro reports 67, according to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control. That information was last updated at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday.
The CDC’s map, last updated Thursday — but still lags behind in what the state is reporting — shows that Georgia, Florida and Virginia all have more than 25,000 cases each.
New York has, by far, the highest number of cases at 338,617. No other state has more than 100,000, according to that map.
Back in North Carolina, the state’s most populated county, Mecklenburg, has recorded 2,385 positive cases.
Moore County on Friday reported one more case, bringing its total to 165, including 10 deaths.
An outbreak at a Pinehurst nursing home is tied to many of that county’s cases, and four in Richmond County.
