Pair charged in East Rockingham meth bust

ROCKINGHAM — Deputies serving a search warrant Wednesday reportedly discovered more than a half-ounce of meth and made two arrests.

According to a press release, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office had received multiple complaints of drug activity at the Hickory Street home of 56-year-old Brian Keith Dixon.

While executing the warrant, investigators reportedly found more than 20 grams of suspected methamphetamine.

Both Dixon and 33-year-old Amanda Elene Watson were arrested and charged with one count each of: possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance; maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance; and possession of drug paraphernalia. The latter charge is a misdemeanor.

They were booked into the Richmond County Jail each under a $25,000 secured bond. Jail records show they are scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 25.

Their recent charges were not listed on the state court calendar as of Thursday afternoon.

Online court records show Watson has several pending traffic violations from the N.C. State Highway Patrol and Rockingham Police Department, including driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.

Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Dixon was convicted in Richmond County of felony breaking and entering in 1983, for which he served about a year behind bars.

His most recent conviction, in 2015, was in Brunswick County for possession or distribution of a meth precursor and possession with intent to sell a Schedule I controlled substance. He served just less than nine months for that offense.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
