HAMLET — A man and woman are facing charges after allegedly breaking into a building at a neighboring home and stealing several items.
According to warrants, 41-year-old Chad Michael McKenna and 44-year-old Catherine Chavis Locklear, broke into a building on Kindale Avenue on Monday. (Note: One warrant has the road spelled as “Kendal.”)
Warrants show Locklear also lives on Kindale and McKenna lives nearby on Beeler Avenue.
Locklear is accused of stealing two horseshoes, wire cutters and a pair of pliers.
McKenna, while not accused of stealing anything, was allegedly found to have two Xanax pills, and an unspecified quantity of methamphetamine, cocaine, Suboxone and marijuana.
Locklear was arrested and charged with breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering.
McKenna is facing felony charges of breaking and entering, possession of methamphetamine and possession of cocaine; as well as misdemeanor charges of possession of up to a half-ounce of marijuana, simple possession of a Schedule III controlled substance and simple possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance.
Both were booked into the Richmond County Jail, each on a $15,000 secured bond and are scheduled to appear in court June 12.
Online court records show Locklear has two pending school attendance law violations from 2022.
Locklear appears to have no prior convictions in the state.
However, McKenna has a list of convictions in multiple counties dating back more than 20 years.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
