HAMLET — Two parents are facing child abuse charges after allegedly severely injuring their infant.
According to warrants taken out by the Hamlet Police Department, a 5-month-old child received a remote fracture to the right tibia and a subdural hematoma to both the left and right side of the head on March 26.
The child’s parents, 36-year-old Tearra Shanell Scott of Hamlet and 27-year-old Nicholas Naquan Wilson of Rockingham, are each charged with one count of intentional child abuse with serious bodily injury.
Both were arrested March 28. Scott is being held on a $100,000 secured bond, and Wilson’s bond has been set at $300,000. The two had their first appearance in court on March 31. Scott’s next court date is April 2, Wilson’s is April 7.
Records show Wilson is also facing a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile for allegedly watching “adult pornographic material” on a cellular device while a 3-year-old was in the same room watching television. The address for that incident matches Scott’s home address.
Court records show Wilson has several pending traffic citations from 2024, including driving with a revoked license, operating a vehicle with no insurance, and speeding.
Neither defendant appears to have any prior convictions in North Carolina.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
