ROCKINGHAM — Four residents will be honored Saturday night as part of a Black History Month celebration by a local church.
Philadelphia United Methodist Church of Rockingham will be hosting its annual Night of Honor from 6-10 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Dobbins Heights Community Center.
This year, the church will honor Myra Leak, Michael Morman, Melvin Covington and Sara Ledbetter.
According to Curtis Ingram, Morman and Covington both run the food bank in the Little Philadelphia community, and Leak and Ledbetter are retired educators who work with the youth.
The church has been hosting its Night of Honor since 2006, Ingram said.
A $15 donation is being asked for attendance, with proceeds going to the Philadelphia Scholarship Fund.
The following day, Rockingham native Markita Wright will be the guest speaker for a Black History program at the church.
Wright was a nurse for 13 years, is a certified life coach, and author of the book “Quarantine Revelations.”
