ROCKINGHAM — The final senior night of the winter sports season was held at Richmond Senior High School Friday.
Between games of a conference doubleheader against Pinecrest High School, the Raider and Lady Raider basketball teams took time to recognize their soon-to-be graduates.
A total of seven players –four Raiders and three Lady Raiders – and four team managers were called to halfcourt and celebrated for their contributions to the programs.
This year’s seniors for the Raiders were Jayden Hamilton, Yusaun Harrison, Amer Morrison and Domonic Tillman.
Hamilton has been a four-year varsity starter for Richmond, with Morrison playing three full seasons at the varsity level. Both Harrison and Tillman have played varsity the past two seasons.
Three of the managers were part of the boys’ program – Nasir Covington, Kendrick McCollum and Davion Watkins..
The Lady Raiders had three seniors this winter – Olivia Brown, Jasiah Gilchrist and J’Nasia Neal.
Neal started four years on varsity for the Lady Raiders and Gilchrist played four years of varsity basketball with her last three played for Richmond. Brown became a varsity contributor the past two seasons.
All seniors from both programs were escorted by family members and greeted by either head coach Donald Pettigrew (Raiders) or head coach Taneika Reader (Lady Raiders). Players received personalized posters with action shots on them.
Also taking part in senior night was the Richmond cheerleading program, which held its second recognition this school year (the other was during football season).
Three cheerleaders completed the two-season journey this year – Makayla Brown, Madalyn Burnett and Emma Williams, all three of whom have been three-year varsity cheerleaders.
They, too, were presented with gifts by all members of the coaching staff at half court.
