DERBY — A community yard sale on Saturday raised $3,800 for suicide awareness and prevention.
The Black Fowlcan Foundation, which hosted the event, was started last year by Sierra McQueen in memory of her late husband and others she’s lost to suicide.
McQueen said the foundation helps pay for therapy for those who can’t afford it, and provides scholarships for those affected by suicide.
Black Fowlcan is hosting another upcoming “fun-raiser” at The Rock‘n’Roll skating rink in Rockingham, from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, June 28.
The organization will also be the recipient of a 50/50 raffle of the next Cruise-In on Main, hosted by Riverside Bakery and Coffee Shop in downtown Hamlet. That event is scheduled for noon-3 p.m. on June 20.
Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Donations will also be accepted.
