RAMSEUR, N.C. — Four runs in the top of the second was enough for the Hamlet Junior baseball team to hold on for a win Thursday.
Thanks to some late-game defensive plays, Hamlet Post 49 earned a 4-3 win over Eastern Randolph Post 81.
Noah Stubbs earned the win on the mound in 4.1 innings, with Tristan Chavis getting the save with 2.2 innings of relief.
A 7-2 double play started by Colson Smith to catcher Colton Nelson recorded the final two outs of the sixth inning, which ended a bases-loaded, no-out jam without giving up the tying run.
Nelson, Smith and Jakob Trexler each recorded one run batted in for Hamlet in the team’s first Area 3 Conference win of the summer.
