ROCKINGHAM — The first day of spring sports officially opened Wednesday on Richmond Senior High School’s campus.

Valentine’s Day was the perfect way for student-athletes to show their love for their respective sports.

The girls’ soccer, softball and track and field teams were all holding their first of three days of tryouts.

Wednesday marked the first day allowed for spring sports activities by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.

Leading the tryouts were head coaches Chris Larsen (soccer), Mike Way (softball) and Reggie Miller (track and field).

There were close to 60 players who tried out for soccer, and approximately 30 players each for the softball and track teams.

Tryouts for all three programs will continue Thursday and Friday, with the first practices of the new season beginning Monday.

The Richmond Observer will publish a photo gallery of the boys tryouts soon and continue its award-winning sports coverage of all sports this spring.

Below are photos of the Lady Raiders’ soccer, softball and track and field tryouts taken by sports editor Kyle Pillar.
