ROCKINGHAM — An atmosphere of celebration and recognition filled the Richmond Senior High School softball field Tuesday evening.
The second senior night in as many days on campus, the Lady Raiders took time ahead of their home Mid-South Conference game to focus the spotlight on the team’s two senior players.
This year’s seniors were Kinsie Lyerly and Hayden Robinson. Both four-year members of the program, Robinson contributed to the varsity team all four years. Lyerly joined the varsity ranks for the past two seasons.
Continuing the tradition of making a ceremonial trip around the bases, both seniors walked to first base and were met by their families and assistant coach Taylor Parrish. They then met assistant coach Lauren Brewer at second base and head coach Caroline Wilson at third base.
Upon crossing home plate, each senior received a gift basket from her underclassmen teammates.
While Lyerly and Robinson rounded the bases, a pre-recorded playing of public address announcer James Lyerly played. It highlighted each senior’s journey through the years, favorite memories and future plans.
The Richmond Observer will publish the results of Tuesday’s conference win against Overhills High School soon.
