2OT match ends in scoreless draw

ROCKINGHAM — Two overtime periods Friday still wasn’t enough to decide a winner in Richmond Senior’s girls’ soccer match.

Hosting Hoke County High School for their third Mid-South Conference match of the season, the Lady Raiders battled for 100 minutes and finished in a 0-0 draw.

Head coach Chris Larsen said much of the game’s tempo was controlled by the Lady Raiders, but that it was just one of those “unlucky nights” where the team couldn’t score.

In the two 10-minute mandatory overtime periods, the Lady Raiders had a couple chances to score from juniors Colbie Covington and Mariana Mendez, as well as freshman Nayeli Chavez.

The defense also cleared a pair of overtime corner kicks out of the danger zone to keep it scoreless.

Richmond (3-6-2, 0-2-1 MSC) returns to action Tuesday at home against Overhills High School at 7 p.m.
