ROCKINGHAM — Midway through the first of two rounds of conference play this season, the Richmond Senior High School girls’ basketball team is close to a familiar spot.
Hosting Union Pines High School Tuesday, the Lady Raiders suffered a loss at the buzzer but still sit near the top of the Sandhills Athletic Conference standings.
Following the 53-52 loss, Richmond is in second place.
Leading by 10 points with more than 3:30 left in the game, Richmond allowed a 16-5 run by the Lady Vikings. Taryn Pekala hit the game-winning three-pointer at the horn.

Richmond (9-5, 3-1 SAC) has a game scheduled for Friday at Lee County High School (6-6, 1-2 SAC). Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
