ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond softball team lost its season opener Wednesday but showcased its power at the plate.
Falling to Union Pines High School 23-7, the Lady Raiders trailed by four runs before the Lady Vikings scored a dozen runs in the sixth inning.
Four Lady Raiders each hit one home run – seniors Kinsie Lyerly and Hayden Robinson, junior Emma Rusich and freshman Ava Clark.
Robinson and Lyerly went back-to-back in the second inning and Clark hit her homer later in the same frame. Rusich hit a two-run homer for Richmond’s final two runs.

The Lady Raiders (0-1) travel to South Stanly High School Thursday for a non-conference game at 6 p.m.
